Man arrested in shooting targeting immigrants in Sweden

CNN) -- Swedish police have arrested a 38-year-old man suspected in a series of shootings targeting immigrants, they said Sunday. "The man was arrested late Saturday night on suspicion of murder and attempted murder," lead prosecutor Solveig Wollstad said. Eight people have been injured and a woman, 20, killed in the shootings which police believe are connected to the gunman, according to CNN's Swedish affiliate TV4. The fatal shooting took place in October 2009, and the seven attempted murders have been between October last year and October this year, according to police. "What connects all these crimes is that the victims have an immigrant background," said Borje Sjoholm, a spokesman for the regional criminal division. Investigators have been interested in the suspect "for some time," Sjoholm said. "What led to his arrest was good old traditional police work and information from the public," he added.

Two jockeys brawl after Breeders' Cup

(CNN) -- Friday's fisticuffs between two jockeys at a famous racing event resulted from the horse track version of road rage. Three-time Kentucky Derby winner Calvin Borel, unhappy about an abrupt midrace move at the Breeders' Cup Marathon at Churchill Downs, approached Javier Castellano and put his finger in his face. Castellano appeared to throw the first punch and the two tangled briefly in the winner's circle before a shocked crowd. Borel was livid as he yelled at Castellano, even after the pair were separated. Borel later apologized for the incident. "I've never seen that before in my life," Breeders' Cup worker James Rutledge told CNN affiliate WAVE in Louisville, Kentucky. It was a surreal scene just a few yards from where race winner Eldaafer, a 5-year-old gelding, was enjoying his moment. Rac

stocks stage big rally, Dow spikes 2%

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- U.S. stocks rallied Thursday, with all three major indexes finishing at two-year highs, as investors continued to cheer the Federal Reserve's announcement to pump $600 billion into the economy. The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) jumped 220 points, or 2%. The S&P 500 (SPX) climbed 23 points, or 1.9%, and the Nasdaq (COMP) rose 37 points, or 1.5%. The Fed said Wednesday it will buy $600 billion of U.S. Treasuries by the middle of next year. The additional stimulus, referred to as quantitative easing, is the Fed's latest stab at lowering interest rates and combating deflation -- a move it hopes will help prop the sluggish economy. The announcement was met with a tepid response Wednesday, but markets around the world surged Thursday. Commodities went along for the ride, with oil jumping 2% and gold rallying 3%. Treasurie

backlash against Fed's $600B easing

FT) -- The US Federal Reserve's decision to pump an extra $600bn into the economy has galvanized emerging market central banks into preparing defensive measures and sparked criticism from leading global economies. The Fed's initiative, in response to rising concern about the weakness of the US economy, has fuelled fears of a sharp drop in the dollar and a fresh flood of capital inflows into emerging markets. China, Brazil and Germany on Thursday criticised the Fed's action a day earlier, and a string of east Asian central banks said they were preparing measures to defend their economies against large capital inflows. Guido Mantega, the Brazilian finance minister who was the first to warn of a "currency war", said: "Everybody wants the US economy to recover, but it does no good at all to just throw dollars from a helicopter." In India, Obama pushes U.S. jobs 1

صورة
Mumbai, India (CNN) -- Eager to fend off any criticism that he's globetrotting just days after a disastrous midterm election, President Obama unveiled about $10 billion in new contracts for U.S. exports to India on Saturday as he launched an aggressive push to show his trip to Asia will deliver jobs back home. "The United States sees Asia, and especially India, as a market of the future," Obama said at a meeting here with business leaders from the U.S. and India. "For America, this is a jobs strategy." It is a delicate balancing act for Obama to promote broader trade relations with India, given American frustration with the outsourcing of U.S. jobs to call centers in cities like Bangalore here in India. But Obama took the issue head-on, by asserting that the notion of Indian outsourcing being a net drain on the U.S. economy is part of a "caricature of India as a land of call centers and back offices that cost American jobs."

Kenya takes on India in bid to be call center capital

CNN's Marketplace Africa offers viewers a unique window into African business on and off the continent. This week the show takes an inside look at Kenya's first call center, a growing business that is challenging Asia's long-held dominance of the international outsourcing industry. Watch the show on Wednesdays 1845, Fridays 0045, Saturdays 0715, Sundays 0615 (all times GMT). (CNN) -- A trailblazing Kenyan call center is taking on India and the Philippines, trying to persuade international businesses to outsource their customer service to Nairobi. When Nicholas Nesbitt started his outsourcing business in 2005, people found it hard to take the idea of an African call center seriously. "When I first pitched Kenya, some people literally laughed in my face," Nesbitt, CEO of the Nairobi-based KenCall outsourcing call center, told CNN. "When t
